Criterion 6.3.5 High Temperature Control

Criterion text:
Means shall be provided to limit tank temperatures to a value not to exceed the tank supplier's specified high temperature limit. The pressure and temperature relief valve shall not be used for this purpose under normal operating conditions.

Comments:
The electric water heater high temperature protection mechanism provides a means for limiting high temperatures . The high temperature cut-off reset button is circled in white in Figure 1.

Gas water heaters incorporate a fusible link to prevent extreme temperatures.

Another alternative available in meeting this requirement is to provide proper system sizing. To ensure that this option is valid, the installer must use the components specified by the manufacturer.
