Criterion 6.1.1.8 Vacuum-Induced Pressure Protection

Criterion text:
All components of the solar energy system shall be protected against the maximum vacuum which could occur within the system.

Comments:
Installers should follow the manufacturer's SRCC approved installation manual and install vacuum relief devices at the locations specified in the approved system schematic.

Manufacturer's can specify the use of a variety of vacuum breakers. Figure 1 illustrates a single purpose conventional vacuum breaker, while Figure 2 shows a multi purpose vacuum breaker and air vent combination unit.

It is critical that the installer install the vacuum breaker in the location specified in the system schematic.
