6.1.6.11 Piping System

The
piping system shall be provided with valves which can be closed
for the purpose of isolating the solar hot water supply system
from the auxiliary hot water heater, thereby permitting operation
of the auxiliary hot water heater when the solar hot water system
is inoperative or being serviced.
Comments:
The installer must follow the guidelines in the SRCC
approved manufacturer's installation manual. The manual will specify
the types of valves required. The system schematic (Figure 1)
should be used to determine the appropriate installation location
of these valves. These valves will be used to close the solar
system off from the backup heater so that hot water will be available
to the home if the solar system is ever disabled.
