| Criterion
6.1.2.2 Protection From Ultraviolet Radiation
Criterion
text:
Ultraviolet
(UV) radiation shall not significantly alter the performance of
any component or subcomponent of the system.
Comments:
Installers must ensure that external control related
components must be either resistant to UV rays because of their
chemical properties (UV inhibitors)
or be protected by an external method such as a suitable paint
coating, external jacket, etc.
Installers must use sensor and photovoltaic module wiring that
is rated for outdoor use.
The
sensor wiring shown in Figure 1 has been rated for outdoor use.
In addition to this, most installers also coat the wiring with
paint.

Figure 1
In
the installation in Figure 2, the installer did not coat the sensor
wire with any type of protective material. Since this wire was
not UV resistant, deterioration and system malfunction will eventually
occur.

Figure 2
Figure
3 illustrates several problems. The wiring was not only not UV
protected but was also not secured.
