6.5.20 Emergency Egress and Access

The
design and installation of systems shall not impair emergency
movement of the building occupants.
Comments:
Common sense during the installation dictates the steps
that need to be followed to meet this requirement.
Usually this requirement is not a problem unless the tank is installed
in a location that could block required exits.
In turn, the homeowner should be reminded that they also should
maintain a clear space around the water heater and solar system
equipment for possible future maintenance purposes.
In the case shown in Figure 1, the owner has surrounded
the storage tank with the usual accumulated surplus.

addition, as shown in Figure 2, access to other plumbing devices
should not be restricted by any component of the solar system!
