6.1.1.5 Back Thermosiphon Prevention
Criterion
text:
Means
shall be provided to prevent undesired escape of thermal energy
from storage through thermosiphoning action.
Comments:
The
installer must install thermosiphon prevention components as they
are indicated in the manufacturer's approved installation manual
and schematic.
In
the majority of systems, the manufacturer requires the use of
check valves. These come in an assortment of options, including
motorized (Figure 1 and 2), manual vertical (Figure 3), and horizontal
swing (Figure 4). In each case, the installer must follow the
manufacturers installation instructions and use the check valve
provided with the system package. Installer must also make sure
that the check valve is installed in the recommended location
and in the proper orientation - flow and check wise.
