6.4.6 Maintenance and Servicing
Criterion
text:
All
individual components of the system which may require periodic
examination, adjustment, service and/or maintenance shall be easily
and safely accessible by the owner and in accordance with the
codes in force at the installation site. Individual collectors
in any array shall be replaceable or repairable without disturbing
any other collector in the array.
Comments:
The
installer must be aware of the requirements of this criterion
during system installation. The system must be installed in such
a manner that allows access on the part of the system owner as
well as future service personnel. Common sense should dictate
whether system components are indeed accessible.
In
turn, installers should also tell the system owner to avoid storing
items around the solar system. The situation in Figure 1 will
make it very inconvenient for anyone who has to get close to the
water heater and those solar system components adjacent to it.

Figure 1
Installers
must use the appropriate interconnection fittings and plumbing
techniques listed in the SRCC approved manufacturer's installation
manual. Figure 2 shows the collector interconnection fittings
provided by a manufacturer. These allow the installer to replace
or repair a collector without disturbing any other collectors
in the array
