Criterion 6.5.1 Firestopping

Criterion text:
The SWH system components shall be assembled such that firestopping shall be possible at time of installation, if required by local codes and ordinances.

Comments:
Firestopping is the practice of preventing the spread of fire through holes cut in walls and ceiling for running pipes. Firestopping is generally accomplished by sealing the annular opening between the pipe and the building material.

Installers must follow the manufacturer's SRCC approved installation instructions.

Installer must also be aware of local codes that apply to this criterion. If in doubt, check with local building department officials during the permitting process.
