6.5.17 Underground Piping
Criterion
text:
Underground
piping subject to vehicular traffic shall be installed to withstand
the additional loading applied by this traffic. The trenches and
backfill shall be free of sharp objects in contact with the pipe.
Comments:
Although
not common, routing piping from one building to another may be
required. In most cases this is because solar access is more suitable
at one building while the water system is located in another.
The installer must follow the requirements of this criterion,
construction industry standards and meet local code requirements.
Figure
1 shows examples of where piping would have to be routed from
one building to another. In this case, the water heater was located
in the basement of the house at left, while the solar collectors
were to be mounted atop a garage to the right of the house and
across the fifteen foot driveway seen at the bottom right. The
installer would have to meet the above requirements when installing
the piping underneath this driveway since vehicular loads are
placed upon it.
